Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 March 2026.
The Betty Foundation ("the Foundation", "we", "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, and your rights under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law.
1. Who we are
The Betty Foundation, a registered Canadian charity (82736 1294 RR0001), 55 Bloor Street West, Suite 410, Toronto, ON M4W 1A5. Privacy enquiries: [email protected].
2. Information we collect
- Donor information — name, email, mailing address, donation amount, payment method (we use Stripe; we never see your full card number).
- Applicant information — for mentee, mentor, scholarship and grant applications, the data required to make a fair assessment, including (where relevant) education history, professional background, and a personal statement.
- Website usage — basic analytics (pages read, country, browser type) using Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly tool that does not track individuals across sites.
- Cookies — see Section 6.
3. How we use your information
- To process your donation and issue a Canadian tax receipt.
- To match mentors with mentees and assess scholarship and grant applications.
- To communicate with you about your application or donation.
- To send you our quarterly newsletter — only if you opted in.
- To meet our reporting obligations to the Canada Revenue Agency.
We never sell your personal information. We never share donor lists with other charities or commercial organisations.
4. Confidentiality of applications
All scholarship, grant and mentee applications are treated as strictly confidential. They are read only by the relevant programmes committee. Mentor applications are reviewed by the matching team. We never publish identifying details of mentees or grant recipients without their explicit, written, withdrawable consent.
5. Service providers
We use Stripe (payments), Postmark (transactional email), HubSpot (donor CRM), and Plausible Analytics (website usage). All providers are bound by data processing agreements that limit how they may use your information. Where any provider stores data outside Canada, we ensure equivalent protection through contractual safeguards.
6. Cookies
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies (to remember your cookie preference and donation form session) and optional analytics cookies (Plausible — no personal identifiers, no cross-site tracking). You can choose "Essential only" on our cookie banner to disable analytics.
7. How long we keep information
Donation records are kept for ten years to meet CRA requirements. Applicant data is kept for three years from the close of the application cycle, unless you ask us to delete it sooner. Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe.
8. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, withdraw consent, and complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada. Email [email protected] — we aim to reply within 30 days.
9. Security
This site is served exclusively over HTTPS. Donor data is processed by Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1). Internally, access to applicant information is restricted to the relevant programme staff and is logged.
10. Children
Our programs are open to women aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
11. Changes
We will update this page if our practices change. Material changes will be highlighted on the home page for 30 days. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.
